Funeral services for William Riley Hedges, 82, a
life long Norris City Community resident, were held at the Village Cumberland
Presbyterian Church south of Norris City Saturday afternoon with the Rev. Frank
Sanders assisted by Rev. Troy Alexander officiating.
He died Thursday after a long illness at the home of his daughter Mrs. Wayne
Spence of Norris City.
William Riley Hedges was born in Gallatin County on Sept. 2, 1868 to the late
John and Mary Hedges. He attended the schools of the community.
He was united in marriage on Nov. 8, 1894 to Miss Dora Magnolia Garrison. To
this union 11 children born. Six children preceded him in death; Etta Marie
Kinsall, Lois Hedges, Ezra and Emory Hedges, Retha Lucille Hedges and Mary
Norris.
He is survived by five children, three sons, Jewell, Ardmore, Okla., Harrell,
Wood River, Ill., and Osborne, Alton, Ill., two daughters, Miss Lena Hedges and
Mrs. Mildred Spence, Norris City; nine grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren; one brother, Rev. Charles E. Hedges; two sisters, Mrs.
Sophia Lasater, Norris City and Mrs. Ella Breeden of Cottonwood and several
nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Burial was in the Village Cemetery under the direction of the Turner Funeral
Home.
