Hallie C. Griffith, 86, McLeansboro, died Jan. 13, 1991, at Hamilton Memorial
Hospital in McLeansboro. Mr. Griffith was a farmer until retirement.
He was born Sept. 10, 1904, in Hamilton County, a son of Albert and Martha
Isabelle (Mayberry) Griffith. Aug. 8, 1923, in McLeansboro, he married Gladys M.
Thompson, who died Dec. 3, 1959.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with
Sister Mary Erwin officiating. Burial will follow at Prospect Cemetery near
McLeansboro. Friends may call 5 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral
home.
Mr. Griffith is survived by seven sons, Robert Griffith of Morris, Adrian
Griffith of Mt. Vernon, Harold and Junior Griffith, both of McLeansboro, Vertis
Griffith of Eureka, Marvin Griffith of Beach Park and Leroy Griffith of
Newcastle, Wyo., five daughters, Bernadine Carter of Zion, Vernice Lee of
Gillette, Wyo., Genevieve Sinks of Eldorado, Geraldine Butler of Weatherford,
Okla., and Rose Stepp of Baton Rouge, La.; one brother, Claude Griffith of
Collinsville; three sisters, Mary Green and Grace Campbell, both of McLeansboro,
and Nellie Farris of Wood River; 47 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 37
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Mr. Griffith was educated in Hamilton County. He was a Methodist.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one infant
son, one brother, one sister and three grandchildren.
