Albert Griffith Funeral Today At McLeansboro
Funeral services for Albert Newton Griffith were to be conducted at 2:00 p.m.
today at the Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The Rev. Harold Metcalf is
officiating. Burial is to be in Hopewell cemetery.
Mr. Griffith, 94, of McLeansboro, died in the McLeansboro Nursing Home at 9:50
a.m. Saturday. He had served as commissioner, supervisor, and tax collector of
Mayberry township.
He was born Mar. 4, 1873, in Hamilton county, the son of James and Rachael
(Matlock) Griffith.
He was married to Martha Mayberry, who preceded him in death. He later married
Eva Hargrove, who survives. He is also survived by three sons, Claude Griffith
of Madison, Ill., Hallie Griffith of McLeansboro, and Harry E. Griffith of
Collinsville, Ill.; four daughters, Mrs. Pearl Prince, Mrs. Mary Green; Mrs.
Grace Campbell, all of McLeansboro, and Mrs. Nellie Marie Farris of Hartford,
Ill.; 31 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-
grandchildren.
A brother and a sister preceded him in death.
