SHAFTSBURY --- Clement David Greene Sr., 56, son of the late James E. and Lucina
(Greene) Greene, died at Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington this morning. A
native of Shaftsbury, he would have been 57on July 13.
His schooling had been received in Shaftsbury. He married the former Emily Rice
in May 1928 at Bennington. They made their home in the Maple Hill area of
Shaftsbury, where Mr. Greene was engaged in farming. Ill health forced his
hospitalization early this spring and he had been confined to Bishop
DeGoesbriand Hospital in Burlington and, more recently, at Putnam Memorial
Hospital.
An outdoorsman, his hobbies had been camping, hunting, fishing and trapping.

Besides his wife, he is survived by five sons. Myron H., Clement D. Jr., Arthur
F., Richard R., all of Shaftsbury, and Pvt. Douglas E. Greene, U.S. Army. Fort
Dix, N.J.; two daughters, Mrs. Lewis (Jennie) Bishop of Woodford and Mrs. Harold
(Beulah) Moffitt of Shaftsbury; and two half brothers. Arlie of Shaftsbury and
Alvie of Shushan, N.Y. Eleven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews are also
left.
Friends may call at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington where the family
will be in attendance tonight and Wednesday night from 7 to9. The funeral
will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev A. J. MacDonald,
Shaftsbury Methodist Church pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Waite's
Cemetery, Shaftsbury.
It has been suggested by the family that memorial contributions be made to the
Vermont Cancer Society, Inc., Montpelier.
