Mrs. Arlie E. Greene, 75, the former Bessie A. Beagle, of Shaftsbury died this morning at Putnam Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Shaftsbury Feb. 21, 1896, she was the daughter of John and Nellie (Bates) Beagle. Her education was received in Shaftsbury schools.  She was married to Mr. Greene in North Bennington on Jan. 18, 1914.  In her younger years, Mrs. Greene had been employed as a domestic.

She was a member of the Shaftsbury First United Methodist Church and belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1332 Auxiliary.  Her entire life had been spent in this area.

Survivors besides her husband are four daughters, Mrs. James (Eleanor) Welch, Mrs. Edward C. (Lina) Armstrong and Mrs. Barbara Charron, all of Shaftsbury, and Mrs. Betty Dunham of Winsted, Conn.; 11 sons, Cecil A. Greene of Cambridge, N.Y.; Donald E. Greene of Shaftsbury, Raymond H. Greene of Bennington, Arlie F. Greene Jr. of Prospect, Conn., Lowell W. Greene of Winsted, Conn., Howard Maxwell of Amsterdam, N.Y., Warren C. Greene of Shaftsbury, John E. Greene of Bennington, Clyde M. Young of Bennington, Elmer S. Greene of Bennington, and Gale V. Greene of Winsted, Conn.; 52 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Edmund J. Beagle of Sunderland; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be held at Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. A. J. MacDonald, pastor of the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church officiating.  Calling hours at the funeral home are tonight from 7 to 9 and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 when the family will be in attendance.  Burial will be in the family lot in Maple Hill Cemetery, Shaftsbury.
