A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he most recently was associated with Barnes & Wadford Attorneys at Law. He did his undergraduate work at Asheville Biltmore College and received his law degree at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
Garrison was a former solicitor for Buncombe County and later was county attorney for a number of years. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force, 389th Bomb Group. He was a member of Blackmer Lodge No. 170 A. F. & A. M. He was the son of the late Thomas S. Garrison Sr. and Edna Mull Garrison and the husband of Madelyn Stafford Garrison, who died earlier this year.
He is survived by his children, Ellen S. Garrison of Asheville, Dana Garrison of Philadelphia, Pa., Jeff B. Garrison of Raleigh and Kiffin Garrison of Santa Ana, Calif.; his step-children, Carole Cook of Manassas, Va., Regina Harris of St. Joseph., Mo., Shirley Hedrick of Winston-Salem, Kaye Walker of Black Mountain and Re4becca Ponder of Weaverville; a sister, Ann Baber of Asheville; 16 Grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Weaverville United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. The Rev. Derek G. Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The body will be placed in the church an hour before the services.
The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Weaverville United Methodist Church. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence.
