Dallas, N.C. - Mildred Garrison Carroll, 82, of Gastonia, passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas, N.C. She was born May 3, 1927 in Franklin, to the late Letha Pearl Dietz Buchanan and the late William Boyd Buchanan. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, James Woodson Garrison Sr., Fred Carroll and a daughter, Betty Lou Garrison Thomas.

Mrs. Carroll was a lifelong resident of North Carolina and enjoyed blue grass music and traveling to the mountains she called home. She was a person of great strength, who, until Alzheimer's claimed her strength, was able to walk to 14 miles at a time if necessary. She enjoyed the freedom that walking gave her. During her illness she never complained and was able still able to be funny and quick-witted and that is some of what we will miss the most about her.

Mrs. Carroll is survived by her three children James Woodson Garrison Jr. and wife, Judy, Joy Garrison Sanford and husband James, Jo Ann Garrison Joyner; grandchildren, Kristie Bennett, Clay Thomas, Julie Robinson, Isaac Thomas, Jamie Revis, Melissa Love; and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.  Moore Funeral Home of Forest Lawn, Chandler is assisting the family.
