WEAVERVILLE -- Janie Black Garrison, 96, of 20 Pickens Road, died Sunday at her home.

A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a member of Vance Chapter No. 285 Order of the Eastern Star.  She was the daughter of the late Woodfin and Irene Buckner Black and the wife of J. Ed Garrison who died in 1970.

Surviving are two daughters, Mildred Roberts of the home and Awanda Clark of Hickory; two sons, Harold Garrison of the home and Carl B. Garrison of Weaverville; four sisters, Lela Watts of Hendersonville, Ida Hunter of Greenville, S.C., and Edith and Edna Rogers of Weaverville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Locust Grove Baptist Church of which she was the oldest member.  The Revs. H. L. Wilson, Mervin Garrison and Alvin Ballard will officiate.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at West Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the church an hour before the services.  At other times, the family will be at the residence.
