Boonville resident Lula E. Boyd Garrison died Friday, June 27 at her home where she had lived for more than 50 years. She was 104.
Lula was born July 29, 1898 in Seneca, Mo. to Mary Ann and William Henry Boyd. She came across the Mississippi River in 1904 in a covered wagon with her eight brothers and sisters. She lived most of her life in Warrick County. Living through the Great Depression and several wars taught her to be thrifty and to be grateful for her home and family, the things that matter most of all. She was always a lady with great courage and an inspiration to us all. Lula was a member of First Baptist Church in Boonville for 71 years. She not only received congratulations from President Bill Clinton for her 100th birthday, but also July 29 was deemed "Lula Garrison Day" in her beloved town of Boonville.
Lula was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, William H. Garrison in 1962; two sons, James Herbert Garrison and Lloyd Harvey Garrison; a daughter, Ruth Elizabeth Underhill.
She is survived by five of her eight children: Maggie Cotton of Boonville, who was also her primary caregiver, Dorothy Jenkins and her husband Dave of Boonville, Charles Garrison and his wife Anna of Boonville, Thomas Garrison and his wife Liz of Whittier, Calif., and Ellen Byers of Boonville; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren. Her greatest wish to her family would be to love one another always and to enjoy life to the fullest as she did. She loved the Lord, her family, friends, laughter and life and will be missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 30 at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel with burial following at the Garrison Cemetery near Tennyson.
Memorials may be made to the Vista Care Hospice.
