OBITUARY

Name:   James Arthur "Jay" Garrison

From:  The Daily Register (online), from Harrisburg, Illinois
Date:  September 2003

James "Jay" Arthur Garrison, 73, passed from this life Friday morning at his home on Raleigh Chapel Road.

He was born to Arthur and Cora (Hankins) Garrison on Nov. 1, 1929. He married Lillian "Joyce" Spiller on July 14, 1958.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, who remained by his side for 45 years through "sickness and health, for richer for poorer ..." until the very end. His four children will always remember how much they were loved by him.

His survivors include four children, Grover and Kris Garrison, Virginia and Richard Jeffries, Paula Davis and Bernie Wells and James Curtis and Pal Garrison; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jacob, Timothy, Andrew, Emily, David (Samantha) and James (Krystal); one great-grandchild, Julia Arianne; a brother, John (Loretta) Garrison; several nieces and nephews; and a life-long, childhood friend, Alvey Basham.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; a sister, Lillie Brewer Johnson; and a special cousin, Elbert Hankins.

Jay was known by all for being a loving father and husband. Despite being born with only one arm, he worked as a farmer until it became physically impossible. He leaves a legacy of honesty and integrity. Though gone from this life, he lives on in our hearts. Our pain is lessened by knowing his pain is over.

His request for cremation and other arrangements have been handled by Sloan Funeral Home of Galatia. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
