ELBERFELD, Ind. — Alta Irene (Hart) Garrison, age 87, of Elberfeld, was lifted by God's hand to join Him in Heaven on the 3rd day of March, 2010.

Irene was a loving wife, strong Christian mother, and a devoted church member at Bible Center Cathedral. Irene loved to travel with her husband, Howard, and did missionary work to help feed and care for the orphans in Haiti. For enjoyment, Howard and Irene could be found camping at Kentucky Lake or spending time with her children and grandchildren at family dinners and holidays.

She is survived by daughters, Charlotte Hawes, of Evansville; Kathy Abell, of Newburgh, Ind.; Mary Besing and husband Billy, of Elberfeld; and Terry Allen and husband David, of Chandler, Ind.; sons, Danny Garrison and wife Terry, of Evansville; and Ronnie Garrison and wife Brenda, of Evansville; 24 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Vern Garrison, who passed away in March of 2009; daughters, Sylvia Reynolds and Verna Basilo; grandsons, Ronnie Lee Garrison, Jr., and Keith Allen Garrison; and brothers, Henry and Tom Hurt; and sisters, Margaret Skeels; and Pearl Nicholson.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel, 6300 N. First Avenue, Evansville, IN 47710. Funeral Services will be on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with her grandson, Brad Hawes, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
