Leo D. Galutia, Willing Constable For 30 Years, Dies

Leo D. Galutia of Shongo, who served as constable for the town of Willing for 30 years and as Allegany County deputy sheriff for three years, died Monday night (Sept. 11) in Jones Memorial Hospital.  He was 74.

Born Jan. 22, 1893 in Eldred, Pa., he was a son of John I and Grace Wilson Galutia.  He was married to the former Elva Martin, who survives.

Mr. Galutia served as deputy under Sheriff Daniel Witter.  He later was employed as a guard at Worthington Corporation for 14 years, and at the time of his death operated a store in Shongo.

He was a member of the Shongo Methodist Church, Yorks Grange and Wellsville Lodge No. 295, International Order of Odd Fellows.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by two brothers, Marion Galutia of Stannards and Ellsworth Galutia of Greenwood; a step-daughter, Mrs. Rolland (Genevieve) Perry of Shongo; nine step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today and 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Mason T. Dye Funeral Home.  The body will lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday in the Shongo Methodist Church, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. W. Lee Chamberlain, pastor.

Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

SHONGO -- Leo D. Galutia of this place died at Jones Memorial Hospital Monday (Sept. 11, 1967).

He was born Jan. 22, 1893 at Eldred, Pa., a son of John I. and Grace Wilson Galutia.  He operated a grocery store in Shongo.

Besides his widow, Mrs. Elva Martin, he is survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Rolland (Genevieve) Perry of Shongo; nine step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and two brothers, Marion Galutia of Stannards and Ellsworth Galutia of Greenwood.

Mr. Galutia was a member of Wellsville Lodge IOOF 295 and the York Grange.  For 30 years he was Town of Willing constable; for three years, Allegany County deputy sheriff; and for 14 years, a guard at the Worthington Corp. in Wellsville.

He was a member of the Shongo Methodist Church.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 o'clock this evening and 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Mason T. Dye Funeral Home in Wellsville.  Mr. Galutia lie in state from Thursday (Sept. 14, 1967)  from 1 to 2 p. m. in the Shongo Methodist Church where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. The  Rev. W. Lee Chamberlain, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Wellsville.
