South Shaftsbury -- Mrs. Martha Evans Galusha, 85, widow of David Galusha and a highly respected life-long resident of this community, died early this morning at her home on Church street.  She had suffered from a lingering illness.

Born in South Shaftsbury June 30, 1871, she was the daughter of Warner and Maribe Saunders Niles.  Her schooling had been received in Shaftsbury.  She was well-known and highly regarded as a practical nurse in her active days.  Her assistance and fine care of many of the sick in this area will be long remembered.  In the early days, she used to accompany the doctors on their country calls and lend a helping hand.

Fond of music, she had been a radio listener and took enjoyment in many of its programs,  Her home, however, had been her main interest and, as her family advanced in years and she became a grandmother, she had manifested great interest in the activities of her grandchildren.  A good neighbor and a true friend, she will be greatly missed by many.

As long as her health permitted, she had assisted with many of the local church functions although she was not a member there.  She had been an attendant of the Shaftsbury Baptist Church.

Survivors are one son, Charles Galusha of South Shaftsbury; one daughter, Maribe Potter, also of South Shaftsbury; one brother, John Niles of White Creek; three grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at her home tonight and then at their convenience.  The funeral will be held from her home Saturday afternoon.  Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington is in charge of arrangements.
