Death of Elon C. Galusha, Who was born in Whitestown

Rochester, Jan. 3 -- Elon C. Galusha, a descendent of Jonas Galusha, Governor of Vermont, a Revolutionary hero, and son of Elder Elon Galusha, a Baptist clergyman of national fame, died suddenly last night at his residence, 36 Elizabeth St., aged 81.  He was born on the 5th of June, 1820, in the town of Whitesboro, this state.  When a young man, he moved to New York city, where in the early forties, in conjunction with his brother, Elijah Galusha and Jay Cook, he started the first express between New York city and Philadelphia, which after grew into the Adams Express Co.  A few years after the organization of the express company, Mr. Galusha left New York and became cashier of the Genesee River Bank at Mount Morris, and in 1860 came to Rochester and identified himself with the Traders' National Bank and other financial institutions.
