Asheville – Mary Tom Carter Foister, 97, of 47 Madelyn Ave., died Monday, March 12, 2007.
Mrs. Foister was born Nov. 7, 1909, in Buncombe County. She retired from Ivey's Department Store, after 30 years of service. After her retirement she was employed at Anthony's Specialty Shop for 5 years. Mary was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church since 1950. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Jefferson and Mary Reagan Roberts Carter; sons, Walter Earl Foister (infant), Claude Edwards and Zane L. Foister; brother, Donald James Carter and husband, Grady B. Foister, who died in 1949.
Surviving are daughter, Helen F. Blake of Asheville; son, Raymond B. Foister of Candler; daughter-in-law, Mary Jean Foister of Asheville; granddaughters, Jeanne McGowan, Cheryl Garren and husband, Lloyd, Dr. Cathy Foister, Karen Hawkins and her husband, Phil; grandson, Donald C. Wright Jr. and his wife, Shirley; great-granddaughters, Kristi Salgado and her husband, Scott, Amanda Wright and Maren McGowan; great-grandsons, Andy and Robbie Wright, Cory McGowan and Mark and Kent Hawkins; great great-grandsons, Jacob and Jadyn Blackwell and Nathan Chadron; several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; and two special nieces, Janet Carter and Sandra Alran and her husband, Jim.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merriman Ave., Weaverville with the Rev. David Tucker officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.
