Phyllis J. Davis, 88, died of heart failure Aug. 9, 2002, at Wesley Acres in Des Moines, where she was a resident.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Wesley Acres Community Room. At 1 p.m. Thursday, a graveside service will be held at St. Charles Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, Aug. 14) at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines where the family will be present.

Phyllis Davis was born May 30, 1914, to Clive Austin and Arlie Hannah (Horton) Johnson of St. Charles. On July 8, 1939, she married Melvin Davis in St. Charles. Phyllis had been the postmaster in St. Charles for 28 years, retiring in 1982. She had spent most of her adult life in St. Charles. During her retirement years, she had resided in Des Moines and West Des Moines. She was a member of St. Charles United Methodist Church, National Association of Postmasters, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, O.E.S. Chapter 174 and Town and Country Sweet Adelines. She was a graduate of Capital City Commercial College.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Jan Rambow of Overland Park, Kan.; a son, Dr. Van Davis of Hot Springs, Ark.; and three grandchildren.
