Former Port Orchard resident Hazel Joy Danel, age 84, passed peacefully on Thursday, December 1, 2011 with her daughters at her side in Silverdale.

Hazel was born December 12, 1926 in Casper, Wyoming, one of six children, to Floyd and Ethel (Galutia) Vant. She attended Bremerton High School and graduated in 1945. In 1947, Hazel married Harold Danel in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 2004.

Hazel began her career as a retail clerk during World War II and continued her love of working with the public for almost 40 years. She was proud of her time with the Business Professional Women, Doctor T.C. Baldwin Orthopedic Guild, the Port Orchard Yacht Club, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Clearbrook Inn Assisted Living, and St. Gabriel Catholic Church.

She enjoyed boating with her husband and family. Hazel was a golfer, gardener and cook. She loved playing pinochle and Rumikub with her friends and family. She spent many happy hours playing fetch with her yellow Labrador, Goldie.

Hazel will be deeply missed by her family, daughters Kathleen Duffy and her husband William of Bremerton and Marsha Pfeiffer and her husband Steven of Port Orchard: six grandchildren Elizabeth, Rebecca, Kris, Sarah, Melissa and Benjamin and eight great-grandchildren.

Daughter Susan Neill preceded her in death in 2003.

A memorial Mass will be held at St. Gabriel Parish on December 9th at 11 a.m.
