Richard E. Dammarell "Rich", Age 71 of Hobart, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2001.  Richard has been a lifelong Hobart resident and a retired crane operator at Gary Slag with many years of service.

He was a member of Operating Engineers Local #150.  Richard was a member of the Hobart Moose Lodge #783 and Friend of Kostbade Fowble V.F.W. Post #5365 and Paul Leon Wolick Memorial Post #454.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Sharon (Jesse) Simmons, Valparaiso, Cori [sic] fiance Bud Farley of Portage; 5 grandchildren, Mike (Tammy) Norman, Portage, Kevin Gregor, Hobart, Kimberly Gregor, Joe and Beth Manfred all of Portage; 4 great-grandchildren, Derek, Justin, Kyle and Josh; 1 brother, Don (Shirley) Dammarell, GA; 1 sister, Edna (Richard) Whitten, Lake Station; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend, Dolores "Dody" Matye.  Preceded in death by wife Phyllis and granddaughter, Karen Norman, one brother and one sister.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 10, 2001 at 7 p.m. from Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart.  Rev. Bruce R. Scott of the First United Pentecostal Church of Merrillville officiating.  Cremation Calvary Cemetery, Portage.  Visitation Friday 2 to 7 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel.
