Merton H Crampton, 72, of 372 Emmett St., a retired Grand Trunk Railroad employee, died at 4:15 a.m. today in a local hospital where he had been a patient since Saturday. He had been in ill health for the past year.

Mr. Crampton retired seven years ago as yard foreman for the Grand Trunk, after 30 years with the railroad here. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. Born March 9, 1882, in Olivet, he was the son of Levi A. and Fanny (Galusha) Crampton.

Surviving are his wife, the former Jean C Munn to whom he was married Aug 17, 1938, in Battle Creek; a daughter and a son by a previous marriage, Mrs. Raymond F (Lillian) Cooley of 1750 W. Michigan Ave., and Charles L. Crampton of 57 Pittee St.; two step-children, Mrs. William J Keating of 130 Lakeview Ave. and Ben F. Munn of Ann Arbor; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Pike of Charlotte; a grandson, Robert Broach, and a great-granddaughter Sandra Broach, both of 31 Broadway Blvd., and six step-grandchildren.
