Thurlow E. "Joe" Cowell, 88, a former area resident, died Friday, March 2, 2012, in Durango, Colorado. Joe was born January 29, 1924 in Silica, OH, the son of Enos and Ethel Cowell. At age 17 he enlisted in the Army Air Corp during WWII and served in the European Theater.

After being discharged Joe began employment with the Teledyne Technologies Co. of Toledo, where he served as a machinist for more than 30 years.  He met Carol Diehlman in Ohio and they married in 1971. Joe retired in 2004, and the couple moved to the Durango Colorado area.

He was a member of the Region 2B Local 12 Union, American Legion Post 143, and the AARP. Joe enjoyed watching the local wildlife (especially deer), fishing, camping and spending time with family, "watching" the stock market and country western music.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Cowell of Bayfield, CO; sons, Robert (Gail) of Marysville, OH, Mario (Mary) of Commerce, TX, Mark (Bobbie) Cowell of Stillwater, OK; daughter, Sue (Stan) Weatherby of Crumby, TX; 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, and a sister.

Funeral Services will be held at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St. Sylvania, OH, Friday March 9 at 12 p.m., where friends and family may gather one hour prior. Joe will be laid to rest at Toledo Memorial Park with Military Honors.
