Alma Harris Garrison Coates, 61, of Route 3 Weaverville, Locust Grove Road died at her home Thursday after an extended illness.

A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was employed by Microswitch of Mars Hill, and a daughter of the late Tilden and Eva Manor Harris.

Surviving are the husband, Arthur H. Coates of Weaverville; a daughter, Judy Grindstaff of Weaverville; a son, Gene Garrison of Swannanoa; two brothers, Clennon Harris of Barnardsville and James "Tom" Harris of Nebo; and three grandsons.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Locust Grove Baptist Church, of which she was a member.  The Revs. J. H. Smith and W. H. Grindstaff will officiate.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at West Funeral Home, Weaverville, where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the services.  At other times, the family will be at the home.
