HICKORY - Awanda Garrison Clark, 83, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009, at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley.
Mrs. Clark was born Dec. 15, 1925, in Weaverville to the late James Ed and Janie Black Garrison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, G. Cecil Clark; two brothers, Carl Garrison and Alton Garrison; and two sisters, Mildred Roberts and Robbie Lee Garrison.
Mrs. Clark was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She retired in 1990 as franchise owner of H&R Block in Caldwell County.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Stuart and Kelly Clark of Granite Falls; a brother, Harold Garrison of Weaverville; a nephew, Welmon Roberts of Weaverville; two nieces, Nancy Roberts and Judy Roberts, both of Weaverville; and numerous cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at New Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Dale Watts officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the funeral, from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Mike Bowlin, Donald Godfrey, Wesley Gray, Noland Mewborn, Ed Payne and Mark Beigay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, Building Fund, 410 26th Ave., NE, Hickory, N.C. 28601. Bass-Smith Funeral Home & Crematory in Hickory is serving the Clark family.
