Mildred M. (Wooley) Chastain, 84, of Evansville, Ind., died Thursday, October 23, 2003, ar her home.

Mrs. Chastain worked as a nanny and a cook.  She was a member of New Bethel Southern Baptist Church.  She loved her dogd, Sammy, Lucky and Dashetti.

She is survived by two daughters, Joy K. Payne of Evansville and Jenny A. Chastain of Carmel, Ind.; four sons, Jerry L. Chastain of Evansville, Jim Chastain of Evansville, Jack Chastain of Wichita, Kan., and Joe Chastain of St. Louis, Mo.; son-in-law, Taylor Payne of Evansville; two sisters, Anna Baker of Tacoma, Wash., and Esther Ralph of Evansville; one brother, James Wooley of Evansville; and 11 grandchildren, Brendon T. Smith, Dr. Danica Vasilchek, Jennifer Vasilchek, Nicholas Vasilchek, Stephanie Wolf, Jerry Chastain Jr. Leigh Ann Chastain, Jack Chastain Jr., Jerod Chastain, Samantha Chastain and Rachel Chastain.  In Evansville, Mildred had four great-grandchildren, Paige B. Woods, Madeline J. Woods, Emral Smith and Izaiah Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lon Chastain, in 1978.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 27, 2003, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, 5330 Washington Avenue, with the Reverend Richard Meredith officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. today, Sunday, October 26, 2003, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Vanderburgh County Humane Society or Warrick County Humane Society.
