WEAVERVILLE --- Marion J. Carter, 84, of Morganton, formerly of Weaverville, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, after a brief illness.
Mr. Carter was born Oct. 16, 1919, in Democrat. He made his home the last 30 years in Morganton. He was self-employed in the timber and land sales industry. He attended Mars Hill College. Marion was a United States veteran of World War II.
He was a son of the late Emory C. and Nina Bryan Carter. His brothers, Edward Bryan Carter and H. Dean Carter preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Pearson; sisters, Annie Rose Hobbs of Bunnlevel, Phyllis C. Dale and husband, James M. of Spruce Pine, Christine C. and Bill George of Mars Hills and Loraine C. and Eric B. Nelson of Raleigh; brothers, Roy E. Carter of Fletcher and Kyle E. Carter of Weaverville; sister-in-law, Juanita E. Carter of Fletcher; and 19 nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17, Merriman Avenue, Weaverville, with Marion's nephew, Tony Dale of Spruce Pine, officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park.
