Mrs. Hattie Estella Carpenter, of Middlebury, died June 23.  The funeral was held June 26, Rev. Mr. Porter officiating; burial in Middlebury Union Cemetery.  She was born in Chatham township, March 29, 1867, a daughter of Miletus and Caroline Brown and on Dec. 17, 1882 she was married to Charles E. Carpenter.

Five children were born to them -- Samuel M. Carpenter, of Middlebury; Lawrence C. Carpenter, of Crooked Creek; Earl D. Carpenter, of Keeneyville; Clifford G. Carpenter, at home; and Agnes P. Carlton, deceased.  A brother Merrit Brown, of Lawrenceville and a sister Mrs. Prudence Brewer, of Little Marsh also survive her.

She was highly esteemed by all who knew her.
