Mrs. Ella J. Carpenter, wife of Silas A. Carpenter, of Corning, died at 10:30 p.m. November 14, after a short illness.

She was the daughter of James and Maria Stoddard and was born May 12, 1880 in Avoca, N.Y., where her marriage to Silas Carpenter was solemnized 33 years ago.

For 18 years after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter resided at Wellsboro Junction, Tioga county, removing to Corning where they have resided for almost 16 years.  Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal church.

Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Arthur B. of Horseheads, James D. at home; two daughters, Mrs. Stanley Hooey of Big Flats and Miss. Bessie Carpenter, at home; four sisters, Mrs. Ernest Snyder and Mrs. Charles Sanderson, both of Avoca; Mrs. William Miles, of Towanda; Mrs. Rachel King of Knapps Creek, Pa.; two brothers, Charles Stoddard of Avoca and Sheldon Stoddard of Clymer, Pa; two grandchildren.
