OBITUARY

Name:   Cornelius Charles "Neil" Carpenter

Neil C. Carpenter, 47, prominent farmer and businessman died suddenly of a heart attack Tuesday.

Born in Chatham on May 26, 1889, he was the son of Everett and Emma Van Dyke Carpenter.  On September 7, 1915, he married Miss Jessie Angus.

He served as Justice of the Peace for five years, and was a director and chief adjustor of the Grange Insurance Company, being a member of the Middlebury Grange No. 705.  He belonged to the M. E. Church and was an active worker.  Baseball also claimed his interest and he had often played on the local team.

He is survived by his widow, five children, Meriam, Janet, Everett, Shirley and Patricia, all at home; his father Everett Carpenter of Little Marsh; four sisters, Mrs. Lola Owlett of Osceola, Mrs. Emma Spurgeon of Mansfield, Mrs. Ethel Murdock and Mrs. Helen Reynolds of Little Marsh.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon with prayer at 1:30 o'clock in the residence for the family and 2 o'clock at the M. E. church, the Rev. I. R. Peacock officiating; burial will be in the Middlebury cemetery.
