Claude Raymond Carpenter, 86, of 16 Queen street, died at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 1969 in Williamsport Hospital.

He was born Oct. 22, 1882 in Charleston Twp., the son of Truman and Addie Starkey Carpenter.

He was a member of Wellsboro United Methodist Church.  He also was a member of the Ossea Lodge No. 317 F&AM; Coudersport Consistory and Charleston Men's Brotherhood.

He was a retired farmer and had been employed by the Dunham Store.

He is survived by his wife, the former Catherine Reese; two step-daughters, Mrs. Audrey Edmonds of Norfolk, Va., and Mrs. Barbara Frank of Lakeville, Minn.; two step-sons, Leslie Bryant of College Park, Md., and William Bryant of Westfield; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Monday at Tussey's; burial was in Prospect Park Mansfield.  The Rev. William A. Snyder, his pastor, officiated.
