From:  The Wellsboro Agitator, Wellsboro, Pennsylvania
Date:  Wednesday, June 15, 1927

Mrs. Carrie Viola Statts Carpenter was born in Delmar Jan 14, 1860, daughter of Henry and Maria Statts, and died June 8, 1927.  She could say with Paul: "I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course; I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness."  Her passing was not unexpected by her loved ones, but they were praying she might be spared to them a few years. For many years, her physical strength had been failing, but in the last two weeks she was stricken with pneumonia.

September 22, 1885, she was married to Mortimer Carpenter, of Middlebury Center.  She leaves one sister, Mrs. Maude Christle; her husband and six children to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate wife and mother. The children are as follows:  Alvoid M. of Junius, N.Y.; William H. of Ansonia; Mabel G. of Charleston; Loren C. and Ray E. of Middlebury, and Avah C. at home.

The funeral was held Saturday at 1 o'clock, at the home, the Rev. Mr. Mathewson, of the Baptist church of Holiday officiating.  She was a member of the Middlebury Baptist church, the Missionary Circle and Crookedcreek Grange No. 966.

Mrs. Carpenter was a woman of sunny disposition and cheerful ways and her life had been a useful and beneficial one.  Her kind words will linger as a monument in the hearts of her loved ones.  Her children rise up and call her blessed.
