Doyle Eugene Campbell, 85, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2008 at St. Mary's Medical Center.  He was born December 13, 1922 in McLeansboro, Illinois.

He was a member of St. James West United Methodist Church.  He was also a member of the United Transportation Union and the River Bend Association where he enjoyed playing cards with his railroad buddies.

Doyle came to Evansville in 1946 after serving proudly as an Artillery Corporal in World War II in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1946.

He worked for the L&N Railroad as a brakeman and conductor and retired in 1985 after 39 years of service.

Doyle was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Joyce.

He is survived by his daughter, Jana Lynn Hughes and her husband Richard H. Hughes of Mount Vernon, Indiana; two grandchildren, Lori Lynn Hilt and her husband Sean of Evansville and Brett Alan Hughes of Manhattan, New York; sisters, Delma Campbell and Dena Sutton, both of Evansville; and brother Dale Campbell and his wife Mary of Evansville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Alexander West Chapel, with entombment at Alexander Memorial Park.  Friends may visit Tuesday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Dr. David Hayes and his staff at St. Mary's Cardiology Unit for the special care he was given.  Also, a special thank you to Faye Roy, his companion and caregiver.
