Harold L. Buck, 88, of Evansville, passed away Monday, August 9, 2010, at St. Mary's Medical Center.

Mr. Buck retired as the Principal of North High School, having spent 29 years at the school and was a former member and President of the Vanderburgh County Council. Harold was a Mason and a member of the Optimist Club, the North Central Association and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served on the board of and volunteered at the Westside Food Pantry at Simpson United Methodist Church. Harold was an avid sports fan, golfer and bridge and clabber player.

Surviving Mr. Buck are his daughter, Nancy Buck Lehmann and her husband, Robert of Evansville; two sons, Thomas J. Buck and his wife, Catharine of Carmel, Ind., and Allen D. Buck of Evansville; six grandchildren, Jarett Buck, Ann Buck Cooper, Elaine, Jamison, Christina and Emmalie Buck. Also surviving are a brother-in-law and his wife, George and Joan David and numerous nieces and nephews.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene David Buck in 2001; and three sisters, Ruby Lee Buschkill, Helen Lamble and Josephine Christmas Reynolds.

Funeral services for Mr. Buck will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ on Michigan Street, Rev. Jeff Long and Rev. Brian Buschkill officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military rites.

Friends may visit with the family from 1 until 8 p.m. on Friday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and again from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Westside Food Bank at Simpson United Methodist Church or to the Area Council PTA Clothing Bank at Washington Middle School.
