Carol Megquier Bryant
April 10, 1939  -  December 7, 2014

Carol departed to eternal rest on December 7, 2014 while being wonderfully served by the Center for Hospice Care at L & M Hospital and other personnel on other floors prior to her final care.

She was born on April 10, 1939 in Gary, IN to John and Margaret (Gray) Megquier.  She married Robert Bryant on June 26, 1960.   They lived in Niantic, CT since 2008 and prior to that were in Naples, FL for 20 years.  They made their home in Niles, MI from 1965 until 1988.  Her children are John Bryant (Shauna) of Kalamazoo, MI and Robin Mathews Hebron of Savannah, GA.  She was the mother of stillborn daughter, Elizabeth.  Carol's grandchildren include Tara Mathews and Katie (Greg) Mathews Gerstmyer of Jacksonville Beach, FL, and Brendan Mathews of San Diego, CA,  and Maria and Omyjah Bryant in Kalamazoo, MI.  Great-granddaughters are Torri and Graycen Gerstmyer of Jacksonville Beach.   Her brother, Dale Megquier (Barbara-deceased), lives in St. John, IN.  Step-brothers-in-law are Harold (Dortha) Bryant (deceased), Jim (Joan) Bryant, and Bill (deceased) (Bonnie) Bryant

Carol graduated from Lew Wallace HS and Ball State University.  She attended graduate school at IUSB.  Carol taught elementary school in Indiana and the developmentally disabled in Michigan.  She loved her years at Notre Dame University where she worked in Alumni Relations and later was Admin. Asst. to Dr. Nathan Hatch, Dean of the College of Arts & Letters.

Carol was not able to pursue her long-time interests in antiques, photography, travel, art, fishing, and wildlife in recent years because of health issues.  One of the "birder" highpoints of her life was when she saw the rare quetzal in the rainforest of Costa Rica.  She continued to enjoy the activity of the birds at the feeders and the critters that came out of the Oswagatchie Preserve behind her home.  Carol shared Bob's interest in automobiles and particularly enjoyed their red Studebaker Avanti.  Dogs and cats through the years became welcome parts of the family.

Carol was a member of Marco Presbyterian Church PCA at Marco Island, FL.   She attended Community Baptist Church in Groton and enjoyed the church and congregation.  There will be a visitation from 12-2PM on December 10, 2014 at the Thomas L. Neilan Funeral Home, 48 Grand St. in Niantic.  The funeral service for Carol will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Dr. Peter J. Wallace of Michiana Covenant Presbyterian Church in Granger, Indiana officiating.  Interment will be private, on Monday at Mission Hills.
