WEAVERVILLE - Grace Morgan Brown, age 100, of Church St., died Saturday,
September 10, 2011.
Mrs. Brown was born July 2, 1911, in Buncombe County. She retired after 39 +
years of teaching at Flat Creek Elementary School. She attended Asbury College
in Wilmore, Ky. and was a graduate of Asheville Normal College. She was a member
of the First Baptist Church in Weaverville, the Weaverville Study Club and
lifetime member of the NCAE and NEA.
She was the daughter of the late Thomas Clingman and Laura Carter Morgan; wife
of the late D. Fred Brown who died in 1970. Preceded in death by her brothers
and sisters, Dr. B. E. Morgan, Carey Morgan, Harold Morgan, Mabel Farmer, Mattie
Roberts, Noah Morgan, Ethel Roberts, Ed, Bascombe and Nat Morgan.
Surviving are her daughter, Ann Brown Franklin; son, Fred Brown and his wife
Julie; grandchildren, Laura Grace Franklin, Rachel Brown Marchant and husband
Enoch, Luke Brown; great grandchildren Tula and Harper.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30, Wednesday, September 14, 2011
in First Baptist Church, Weaverville, with Jim McCoy officiating. Burial will be
in West Memorial Park.
Prior to the 11:30 service the family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 at
the church.
"Miss Grace" was a soft spoken, kind lady who was a friend to everyone she met.
