Jerrell "Jerry" Troy Bowers, 73, of
Harrisonville, MO, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2010 at the Cass Regional
Medical Center in Harrisonville.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the
First Baptist Church, Harrisonville. Visitation from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday,
September 21, 2010 at the Atkinson Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests memorial contributions to be made to the Harrisonville Public School
Foundation or the Food For Thought Backpack Program in care of the Atkinson
Funeral Home.
Jerry was born September 12, 1937 to Lee and Esther (Ennis) Bowers in Cassville,
MO. He graduated from Exeter High School in 1956. After graduating high school,
Jerry and his older brother went to Texas to work in the oil fields. Jerry moved
to Kansas City in 1958 and went to work on a survey field crew. On July 4, 1959
he was united in marriage to Lavonne Kay Bertschy in Bentonville, Arkansas.
In 1965 Jerry joined the National Guard. He served 6 months active duty and then
was in the reserve for several years. He earned the Outstanding Achievement
Award for his unit. In 1968 he and Howard Sherman began a surveying business in
Harrisonville, MO. That was the beginning of Sherman & Bowers Survey Company.
After Mr. Sherman's death Jerry went into business with Roger Brenizer, their
business was known as Bowers Brenizer & Associates. Later, the business became
Bowers Survey Company.
Jerry always had time to work for his community. He helped accomplish many
projects. He was on the Harrisonville Park Board for many years. He was also a
member of the Optimist Club, Booster Club, Missouri Society of Professional
Surveyors, and the Cass County Informational Center Board of Directors. Jerry
enjoyed working in his shop, mowing, reading, mushroom hunting with Ray Frogge,
attending his grandchildren's sporting events and activities. He was always
willing to help his kids and neighbors with any project.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Kay of
the home; two sons, Troy Bowers and his wife, Jamie, of Harrisonville, MO and
Gregg Bowers of Harrisonville, MO; one daughter, Patti Dahn and her husband,
Tim, of Harrisonville, MO; two brothers, Carroll Bowers of Carthage, MO and his
identical twin brother, Ferrell Bowers of Cassville, MO; two sisters, Maxine
Nelson of Carthage, MO and Doris Henbest of Cassville, MO; 8 grandchildren,
Samantha and Joe Bowers, Jacob and Nicholas Bowers, and Kaytlyn, Madison,
Jackson and Michael Dahn.
