Andrew Giles Black (13 July 1850 - 3 March 1940), Norris City, died Sunday at
the home of his youngest daughter, Mrs. C. E. Weirauch. He would have been 90y
in July. He was born in Indian Creek Township, the son of James Black, a native
of South Carolina, who came to this county about 1839.
He was married in January, 1869, to Julia A.,
daughter of J. J. Johnson. They were the parents of three children, all
deceased. His wife died in 1874. In December 1876, he married Margaret A.
Pearce. Of their four children, but one is living.
The coal mining enterprise, the backbone of local industry more than 30 years,
owned its origin and development to A. G. Black and his associates. Mr. Black
was a member of the A.F. & A.M. and A.O.U.W. He was Police Magistrate at Norris
City four years. Mr. Black was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
Funeral at Presbyterian Church Tuesday morning with burial in IOOF Cemetery.
