ALLEGANY -- Gerald L. Barnes, of 4034 Route 417 died Wednesday (November 5, 2003) in the Olean General Hospital.

Born March 18, 1911 in Petrolia, he was the son of Homer and Anna Norton Barnes. He was married for 68 years to Gertrude Trowbridge, who survives.

Mr. Barnes was retired from South Penn Oil Co., after 42 years of employment.

Surviving besides his wife, are two sisters, Earsol Mattison and Rena Cowles, both of Wellsville, one brother, Darwin Barnes of Wellsville and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father Homer Barnes, his mother Anna Barnes Trowbridge and six brothers and sisters, Gladys Walden, Arthur Barnes, Norton Barnes, Evelyn VanCuren, Elizabeth Barnes and Francis Leroy Barnes.

Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Road, Olean on Friday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. A graveside service will immediately follow in the Allegany Cemetery with the Reverend Ellsworth Jackson, interim minister of the First Presbyterian Church in Allegany, to officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Allegany Fire Department or to a charity of the donor's choice.
