Charles E. Armstrong, aged 83 of Spring Lake, died Friday, December 26, 2008.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Barbara; brother, Lawrence Armstrong; sister, Lucille Curtis; granddaughter, Jackie Armstrong.

He is survived by his children, Michael (Maria) Armstrong of Holland and Ann Marie (Dee) Armstrong of Walker; brother, Edward (Penny) Armstrong; grandchildren, Barbie (David) Rumery, Rebecca Henson, Thomas Armstrong, Aleana Pacheco, Nelia Pacheco, Michael Rocha and Anita (Danny) Perales; nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Anne Armstrong, Shirley (Gerald) Seese, Margaret Canfield; brothers-in-law, Thomas (Paula) Canfield, Robert (Shirley) Canfield, Ken (Judy) Canfield; cousin, Bernard (Lois) Armstrong; dear family friend, Edith Branch; also several nieces and nephews.

Charlie served in the Seabees during World War II where he was stationed in the Philippines, Dutch East Indies and China. He retired from Consumers Power in 1987 after over 30 years. He was former president of the Genealogy Society of Grand Haven. He was a sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. He spent hours in his organic garden. In later years his passion in life was to write stories of his childhood to the delight of all who read them.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday December 30 at 11:30 a.m. at the Roth-Gerst Chapel, 305 N. Hudson, Lowell, Rev. Fr. Mark Kranenberg of St. Raphael Church, officiating. Interment Findlay Cemetery. Visitation Monday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
