ELKHART -- Virgil G. "Ike" Areaux, 65, of 54273 C. R. 15, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday (March 2) at Elkhart General Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack at home.
He was born June 11, 1924 in Almena, Mich. He married Patricia A. Suhr on Dec. 27, 1947 in South Haven, Mich. She survives along with a son, Daniel G., Areaux of Elkhart; a daughter, Mrs. Jay (Jacqueline) Dunning of Decatur, Ill; six grandchildren; two brothers, Basil of Englewood, Fla. and Duane of Kalamazoo, Mich.
Friends may call from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Stemm-Lawson-Peterson Funeral Home in Elkhart where services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Thomas Herbon of Trinity Lutheran Church in Goshen will officiate. Entombment will be in Rice Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or United Cancer Services of Elkhart County.
Mr. Areaux was a professor at Tri-State College in Angola for 20 years. He was a graduate of Tri-State and belonged to Sigma Phi Delta Fraternity. He was a faculty advisor. He was retired from Miles Laboratories as a mechanical engineer and was an engineer for Pace in Elkhart. He was a member of Professional Engineers and was active in Little League where he was a coach. Mr. Areaux was a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army.
