COMMERCE -- Bertie L. Alexander, 70, of 1403 Moore St., a resident of the Commerce area for 50 years, died at 9 p.m. Tuesday at his home.

He was born Feb. 7, 1897 in Mount Vernon, Ill., the son of W. H. and Nora Belle Garrison Alexander.  He moved to Commerce with his family as a child.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the W. Y. Goff Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Garrett and the Rev. Willard Talley officiating.  Burial will be in Rosemound Cemetery.

Mr. Alexander was married Dec. 24, 1921 in Commerce, to Belle Treadwell.  He was a retired employee of Lakewood Elementary School in Dallas.  Mr. Alexander had been a member of the Methodist Church since childhood.

Survivors include his widow; two sons,. Dewitt Alexander of Gilmer and Bernard [sic] Alexander of Vernon; four sisters, [Mrs. Paul Roundtree,] Mrs. Roy Davis, Mrs. Lawrence Mills, all of Commerce, Mrs. Walter St. Clair of Campbell; a brother, Delbert Alexander of Dallas; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ansel Lowery [Anson Lowrie], Morris Berry, Bradford Tucker, Ronnie Alexander and Paul Roundtree.
