Notes:
Because Curtis' father died when he was very young and his mother was ill, he was raised by his Uncle Jesse Jennings.  He is listed on the 1930 census with Jesse Jennings and his wife Gertie.  Curtis left home and joined the U. S. Army about 1928 or 1929.  During his military service, and after, he completed his education and he and Degi settled down in New Britain, Connecticut where he started a second career as a professor at Connecticut State University.  After retiring from the university, he remained active in local politics and community affairs.

Degi was born in Chicago but raised in New York.  Curtis met Degi there while serving in the military. She was a hospital teaching dietician.  She later taught elementary school.
