Elijah died within a few years of his marriage as a result of a sawmill accident in Arlington, Vermont.  His widow, Beulah, later married the famous Revolutionary War hero, Col. Matthew Lyons.  They lived in Fair Haven, Vermont, Kentucky, and Arkansas.
