Notes:
Richard was first married to Matilda DeWees.  She died in 1846 and he brought their six children into the marriage with Julia.

Richard graduated from the University of Maryland in 1821 and practiced medicine in Hampton, Elizabeth City Co., Virginia until his family's house was burned in the Civil War.  Because he was a Confederate surgeon, they fled to Baltimore, Maryland, saving only a pair of silver candlesticks.
